Somdatta Mandal

Somdatta Mandal is a Professor of English and Head of the Department of English and Other Modern European Languages at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan. She holds an M.A. from the University of Calcutta and M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from Jadavpur University. With a teaching career spanning over 30 years, she has received several prestigious fellowships, including the Fulbright Foundation and British Council Charles Wallace Trust. Her research interests include American literature, contemporary fiction, film and culture studies, diaspora studies, and translation.
She is widely published and has received awards such as the Sahitya Akademi award for translation and the Meenakshi Mukherjee Memorial Prize for research. She has also served as a paper-setter, examiner, and resource person for numerous academic institutions.
